The principles of document imaging that preserve the original condition of historic books, valuable documents, bound originals, colored drawings and maps has been optimized and refined in the new generation of Bookeye® overhead full color scanners. Bookeye® 3 combines state-of-the-art scan lens, CCD image sensors and solid state white electronic lighting with advanced bookfold detection and correction technologies to capture detail that meets and exceeds the expectations of preservationists, all at speeds and a price that represent a breakthrough in digitization equipment for preservation.
The solid state white electronic lighting is very low power with extremely low ultraviolet emissions, important for very old and delicate books. The mobile light strips focus the light on the narrow band of the scan sweep as it crosses the material, further reducing the amount of light intensity and letting production workers know when they are able to turn the page.
For optimum image quality when scanning bound materials, the computer controlled cradle automatically adjusts the elevation of each side as scanning proceeds. In addition, the depth of focus is much greater than with other types of digitizing systems, owing partly to the high quality lighting and partly to the lens and CCD systems.
