The graph on the left shows a much quicker ramp up time for a multiple KIC installation than the lone KIC usage graph on the right. It is understandable that a single KIC unit will receive as much or more usage than any one of three units separated by flights of stairs, but this occurs only after many months. Multiple units appear to be dramatically more effective at introducing the new concept of walk-up scanning to library patrons. When students and faculty suddenly see multiple KIC units throughout their library, they will get a much clearer message that their library’s administration strongly believes that this new equipment is for everyone.

| Monthly KIC usage at these two university libraries reflects the students’ class schedules throughout the academic year. Students’ demands on these units are more pronounced because these represent large institutions with high volume KIC’s. (1) Some private institutions prohibit the use of their name. We opted not to use the name of any private institutions in these statistics. (2) If you would like verification of any of the data gathered from these institutions, please call Diana Jacome at 561-886-2913. (3) The majority of these statistics are derived from non-charging KIC Units.

| This very interesting graph shows the usage of a KIC II unit installed along side its predecessor. After a drop in activity during one Summer month, combined usage resumes its mildly non-linear growth rate. As you can see, the KIC II was immediately more popular, as one would expect with a second generation product. We're very proud of our innovations and of our commitment to improving our products, of which KIC II is a prime example.
Until very recently, we've had the only walk-up scanning system based on a planetary scanner. If new competitors don't hit a home run with their first version, we'll remain several years ahead for a long time to come.
