DLSG solves the staffing problem for creating digital collections and providing other digitization service
BOCA RATON, FL. October 17, 2005 - With the latest release of the Opus digitization workflow system, a library’s existing ILL staff can now perform production digitization and create a master list of digital volumes from which scholars and preservationists can select and create digital collections. Staff time becomes available with increases in efficiency in processing digital ILL requests.

The twofold benefit derives from a new low cost, high speed color flatbed scanner that exceeds digital preservation requirements, yet scans two pages in two seconds for ILL. Combined with BSCAN ILL software, the WideTEK Super B can free up four hours in each eight hour work day, and with little training, that time can be spent digitizing up to four books per day.

“Until now, the greatest synergy in our Digital Library Products was the ability for black & white scanner equipped ILL departments to perform color scanning on our KIC walk-up digitization systems. But to be able to offer an entirely new high quality digitization service without adding staffing or allocating space, and for a low initial investment is by far the best combination for any of our products.” Ted Webb, CEO of Image Access, Inc. and Digital Library Systems Group.
